"My daughter"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital / Accident and emergency Medway Maritime Hospital / General surgery

(as a relative),

In alot of pain went to A&E booked in about 8. 00pm ish at that point 6 hour wait. Doubled in pain unable to move, they say they called her, but she never moved. . complained about that, after 3. 00am was seen and admitted. Put into Sunderland ward. Then there was a cataloge of errors not only to her but others around her. She spent three days in terrible pain with just paracetamol to help, she was in agony, frightened, and felt that no one was listening to what she was saying or helping her. My daughter was asked to do a urine sample was given a pot with the girls next door name on it. I saw an old lady with parkinsons, shaking, was given a mug to drink from and asked for a beaker with lid, and was told they dont have the time. Certain members of staff were not caring at all. I myself have spent some time in medway and I could not fault your service....My daughter is now home, she had an infection, but now after having her appendix out she is improving. I have lived in this area for just over two years, and everyone I speak to has a bad word to say about Medway. I find this very distressing. I do hope that it will improve in the future.

I was sorry to read of the pain and distress your daughter encountered whilst waiting to be seen in the A and E department. Please accept our apologies.

Following her admission to Sunderland you say the care and attention was not a positive experience and that she had witnessed a catalogue of errors. This is not a good first impression.

I would welcome the opportunity to listen to your daughters feedback and offer some redress where possible to her concerns.

If she would like to contact me to discuss further, my details are, Wendy Jones Senior Sister Sunderland Day Case Centre telephone 01634 825023 or email -
