"Praise where Praise is due!"

About: Royal Liverpool University Dental Hospital

Over recent years I have had to undergo a wide range of major and minor dental treatment, all of which has been conducted by a number of different University of Liverpool Dental Hospital undergraduates, all working under the direct supervision of senior lecturer practitioners. Throughout this time I have seen quite a few technological changes introduced, along with various new methods of approach, which are I hasten to add for the betterment of patients. Above all else though, I cannot overemphasise how impressed I’ve been with the complete professionalism and customer care shown by all concerned, which has remained as 'a very impressive constant' throughout. The working relationship for example between tutors and their students, and in turn students to patients are genuinely outstanding and are in themselves a real credit to the institute. From a patient perspective and speaking as one who is very nervous (which is putting it mildly) of receiving any form of dental care, I can honestly say that the way in which students take time to fully explain every stage of treatment before proceeding, is very comforting indeed, as is the knowledge that they are supervised by senior staff who are on hand to assist if necessary and make themselves readily available whenever needed. Occasionally, people say to me…”Oh I wouldn’t let a trainee student near my teeth” to which I respond by saying… “More fool you, because you’re missing out on receiving some of the very best treatment and care that you could possibly wish for, or possibly expect to receive anywhere!” I should particularly like thank one trainee student and single her out for worthy praise indeed. Because over a period of many months leading up her graduating with distinction this July (2014), they demonstrated a natural ability to communicate at all levels and with great maturity and professionalism, often going over and above the call of duty to ensure that the abnormally high-level of sensitivity that I suffer from with my teeth and gums was always kept to an absolute minimum. They did so through the use of her own ingenuity, thus making my dental experiences more bearable and manageable for herself, while simultaneously giving me the confidence to continue with treatment plans. Two other members also deserve commendation here. Both of whom have spent a great deal of time and effort establishing the root (if you pardon the pun) causes surrounding some unusual dental complexities I’ve suffered from, then advising on treatment plans to resolve matters. Yours truly Pete Sampara
