"Heart Emergency Centre at the Royal Liverpool"

About: The Royal Liverpool University Hospital / Cardiology

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I recently had a very unexpected encounter with HEC (Liverpool Heart Emergency Centre) at the Royal. I know the Royal has taken some flak recently for various reasons, so I would like to offer my experiences. I was sent by my  GP as  an emergency admission following an unusual trace reading of an ECG at Garston Hospital.  I was seen within a few minutes by a charge nurse who immediately made me feel that I was in good hands by his calm and matter - of -fact discussion of my problem. Although, the area was busy with several people waiting to be seen, I didn't feel rushed, but felt my problem was dealt with,   with care and sensitivity.   Because I had travelled straight from home to my doctor and then on to the Royal, neither my husband nor I had had any lunch, but the lovely lady on the tea trolley, not only managed to get us a most welcome cuppa, but also produced some delicious sandwiches, while we were waiting to be seen by the doctor. This is just a small reflection of our experience, but was later re -enforced by the care and attention to detail by everyone I met at HEC in my subsequent over-night stay and then transfer to the wards.  Nothing was too much trouble for any member of staff, from the porters, cleaners, nurses and doctors, care - assistants or volunteers, and students, all I met helped to re-enforce my initial impression that I was in the best possible place, being looked after 27 / 7 by the best possible people. So many thanks to all who work at HEC or the Cardiac Wards at the Royal , especially Ward A3, you are all part of a great team and rarely get the recognition you deserve! But from one very grateful patient, many thanks to you all!
