"Routine blood test gone bad"

About: North Middlesex Hospital

I attended the hospital on Wednesday the 25th of June & was sent for a blood test. I didn't wait more than a few minutes & went to the cubicle & sat down. The chap that took my blood didn't say a word to me. He put the strap on my arm & jabbed the needle into my arm without cleaning the area & I have to say I have never been hurt before, but this chap really hurt me. I am nearly 60 years old & have had my blood taken hundreds of times before, but I have never had my arm swell & bruise like this before. I have a golf ball size swelling 4 days after & its getting bigger by the day. I'm seeing my GP on Monday. This was my first visit to this hospital in over 20 years & I hope the other departmens are better. Not a good start.

Sorry that you were not happy with the way your bloods were taken. I am the phlebotomy co-ordinator, nenita.clapham@nhs.net and will share your comments with my team and discuss how we can improve the service for users.
