"Totally inept internal communications"

About: Ripon and District Community Hospital

I have visited this hospital multiple times with different family members am constantly dismayed by the generally low standard of cleanliness and tidiness, which is probably exacerbated by the fact that it is quite run down. It is poorly signposted internally and after one particular appointment the hospital didn't have paperwork available for the specialist to issue a prescription which led to oversights resulting in my not receiving the prescribed treatment at all. The specialist was really cross that it had happened but I felt very let down. This place is, quite frankly, a bit of a backwater. If you have a matter that is non urgent and straightforward it is probably fine but for anything else I would suggest you go to Leeds or Northallerton. The internal comes procedures are just not up to spec for what we expect from a modern NHS.

Thank you for your feedback, which is must appreciated. Whilst services at Ripon Community Hospital are part of Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust, the building itself is actually owned by another NHS organisation. We are in ongoing dialogue with them to seek solutions to the issues presented by having important services being based in a very old building. I would like to emphasise that we are committed to retaining local healthcare services in Ripon. Cleanliness and tidiness are extremely important to us as a key part of preventing infections. I am sorry that you did find the standards up to the high quality that we would expect and will ensure that the team are made aware of this. I am sorry to learn of the difficulties with your care. If you would like us to look more closely at what happened for you, please contact our Patient Experience Team on (01423) 555499 or email thepatientexperienceteam@hdft.nhs.uk Thank you again for taking the time to give us your feedback. Yours faithfully Chris Watt Head of Communications Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust
