"The staff although extreamly pushed ..."

About: Whiston Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

The staff although extreamly pushed due to low staffing levels and high demand on the A&E service. The staff were exeptional, they treated me with the utmost respect. The nurse practitioner that dealt with me was professional, nothing was too much trouble and the team assessed my burns appropriately and promptly, and although I do not live in the area have provided a follow up in clinic.

The cubical area was clean, and senior staff and junior staff interacted well together to make sure I got the correct treatment. From the receptionist up to the senior house officer the staff in this department were excellent in their care.

What could be improved

Unfortunately I was not seen under the 4 hour guidelines due to demands on service, and the triage area has a sheet of perspex in view of the waiting area, therefore not providing privacy for patients which is unacceptable.

Staff uniforms in the department are confusing, it was not easy to identify the grades of staff of whether they were doctors, nurses or assistants.

Anything else?

Not a good idea to place the car park at the other end of the hospital, so patients have to walk a very long distance through the maze of corridoors and over a very busy main road.
