"A poor maternity service"

I was admitted onto ward 30 after a successful elective caesarean-section. Initially I found the after-care to be of a high standard. However, I found it difficult to rest at night due to all the loud gossiping at the nurses' station. The content of the conversations taking place late at night were awful. I heard patients (myself included) being shouted about often in an unpleasant manner. It was obvious that many of the staff regarded the patients as a hassle and an interruption. The worst part was on the day I was discharged. Unfortunately some young, very rude and completely inexperienced junior staff were let loose and allowed to arrogantly involve themselves in some sensitive issues regarding my medical notes and discharge arrangements. They also made many very personal and judgemental comments. Due to their position, I found this was inappropriate and totally unacceptable. Generally, I felt the ward itself was nice, the medical care good, and some staff were professional and very kind (I later wrote to thank these individuals). Sadly, the other staff seemed to struggle with the work they were supposed to be doing. Their attitudes towards patients was poor and unpleasant. Their lack of compassion and understanding was also clearly evident and it was noted that there seemed to be quite a few staff just loitering around in corridors whilst the others were rushed off their feet. A disappointing and traumatic experience which could have easily been very positive all round.
