"I was horrified by the carpark ..."

About: Sutton Hospital

(as the patient),

What could be improved

I was horrified by the carpark today (Feb 5). I would have expected a Hospital to have cleared its parking facilities of ice and snow, therby ensuring the health and safety of its visiting patients. I have just had Knee surgery and found walking to the physio department from the car park to be extremely difficult at time due to the amount of ice in the carparking area. I understand that this is not just an issue with Sutton Hospital, and would therefor be happy for my concerns to be passed on.

Yours sincerely

Matthew Evans

We are sorry that you were disappointed with the car park at Sutton Hospital on Wednesday 5 February. As you will know, the heavy snowfall and adverse weather caused significant problems across the borough, and the normal smooth running of our hospitals was interupted.

Please be assured that we did all we could to clear the car park as quickly as possible, including requesting assistance from the council and even trying to hire our own snowplough or digger. Unfortunately, neither was available. Like many other organisations around the country, we also suffered a shortage of salt and grit during this week.

We are committed to giving our patients the best possible care in a safe environment, and the car park was made safe by Friday 6 February.

Once again, I'm sorry you were not satisfied with our car park during this time; I hope this explains that we were working hard 'behind the scenes' to get the car park cleared of snow and ice as quickly as we possibly could.

I do hope you are recovering well from your knee operation.
