On Sunday 8 June I suffered a deeply lacerated middle finger due to it being caught between the trailing edge of an open classic car door and the garage frame as I attempted to push the car out.
I was taken to The Royal Surrey where the Casualty Sister assessed the injury and called for a Consultant hand specialist who as fortunately on duty. Excellent treatment where X rays where taken and sent to The Queen Victoria and an appointment arranged for the next day.
On Monday I was seen by Bart at Queen Victoria, who was brilliant and had a theatre been available he would have had arranged for the necessary micro
surgery to be done that afternoon.. However understandably this was not possible so after the wound being dressed by Jane I returned home then back the following day.
The staff were outstanding. Sharon ‘took me under her wing’ as we went through the paper work before being seen by the surgeon Sam - MrH. Belcher. In the ‘block room’ I saw Suzanne (Dr Krone, the anaesthetist) who was lovely as indeed were all of the staff.
When I was wheeled into the theatre I could not believed the state of the art equipment that I was to benefit from. As I said to a colleague, ‘It was
like being wheeled into the bridge of the starship Enterprise’!
The care and attention I received in theatre was just brilliant and I thank one and all at the hospital unequivocally for the outstanding care and attention I received whilst I was with them. I count myself very fortunate to have been under the care of The Queen Victoria.
The wound is healing beautifully, which is more than can be said for the door of my classic car! !
Many thanks
