"neurosurgery department"

About: Salford Royal

I have recently undergone a discectomy at salford royal under the neurosurgical team, I was disappointed with the lead up to my surgery trying to get appointment dates and it took around 4months of agony from my MRI scan to the surgery in which time my condition had worsened significantly and became a much larger amount of prolapsed disc. However on the morning of the op I was given a bay to went in, the surgeon came to see me and fully explainedthe procedure, the risks and answered any questions, I also saw the anethesist and the nnurses were re assuring and carried out general checks such as blood pressure etc. I was very nervous before surgery but the staff were great. I woke up in the recovery room post op and immediately. Felt great other than expected wound pain, I was taken ip to the ward and introduced to the nurse looking after me, pain relief was available as and when required and they were great helping me out of bed etc. I was discharged the following day with no problems, around a week after surgery I started to get some heavy bleeding from my wound and went to an a&e department of a different hospital, they liased with my surgeon and salford with my progress. I have since been back to salford as I needed some more stitches to my wound as it was not healing properly due to suspected infection, they were great and I was seen on ward H7 straight away, one of the nurses was great and the surgeon who did my stitches also, since leaving and still suffering with bleeding they have both contacted me to see how I am doing. Big thumbs up to the neurosurgery team, very thorough in everything they day and they really care about the patients care whilst in the hospital and with any post op problems, Thank you!
