"Biopsy for vulval cancer, appaling care"

About: Stafford Hospital / Gynaecology

(as a friend),

My partner was diagnosed with vulval cancer previously and survived this. Unfortunately it looks like the pre cancer condition has come back.

The Gynae consultant confirmed it was VIN and a follow up appointment was arranged so that treatment options could be discussed.

When the appointment arrived, instead of discussing treatment options the consultant performed a 6mm punch hole biopsy with no anesthetic on a very delicate part of the body and only applied anesthetic to stitch her up.

No discussion was had with her and the consultant promptly left with no discussion on treatment options or what happened next. The nurses just informed her the results would be sent in the post.

She has been in pain ever since as no pain relief and is now depressed as she has no idea of when she will be told results.

There was no compassion or patient involvement. Total lack of care or thought for the patient. Previous biopsies have had anesthetic applied so cannot understand why this was overlooked.

This posting is very similar to that of one posted a few days earlier and I am sorry to hear of this and would advise to contact the PALS team on freephone 08000 40 70 60 who will do all they can to investigate this for you.

Kind Regards
