"Phlebotomy service? poor communication"

About: Essex County Hospital

I turned up at Essex County Hospital for 8:30 today. There was a sign on the door appearing to say GP ordered blood tests are no longer done there. Across the various sources of information there is a mixed message: the patient services page for the Essex County hospital has a blood test times link which returns "page not found". My GP's site still states Essex County Hospital does blood tests Monday - Friday at the usual times. I could find no reference anywhere to what the big poster on the door appeared to say. If you have stopped please make it clear on your website and remind GP's to update their information - I'd rather not have to time my meds and public transport to get to the clinic at the right time to find it closed. I needed a test 12hrs after my meds, there was no time to go elsewhere. I'm fully mobile & have a flexible job; for someone less mobile it'd be no joke having to go into town again tomorrow to a different clinic. Alternatively, if I have completely misunderstood, or if the poster is not relevant please remove it or rewrite to state clearly what you do or don't do, from a patient's perspective. Thanks

I apologise you’ve not had a good patient experience. We try really hard to improve our services based on the comments we receive from our patients, their relatives or carers. Our website tries to make it clear here: http://www.colchesterhospital.nhs.uk/phlebotomy.shtml --------------------------------------------------- Changes to our phlebotomy services From 21 May 2014 the way in which patients access phlebotomy services (having your bloods taken for medical tests) will change. •If your GP requests that you have your bloods taken, you will need to contact your GP practice to book an appointment for a blood test. •If you see a hospital doctor or hospital nurse and they request that you have your bloods taken, you will need to attend one of our phlebotomy clinics listed below: Colchester General Hospital Monday - Thursday 8.30am-4.15pm Friday 8.30am-3.45pm Clacton Hospital Monday 9.30am-1.30pm Wednesday 9.30am-1.30pm Thursday 9.30am-1.30pm Harwich Hospital Tuesday 8.30am-12.30pm Essex County Hospital, Colchester Friday 8.30am-3pm ---------------------------------------------------
