"29 yo Postgraduate student of NU with a knee..."

About: Freeman Hospital

I feel the need to tell you about my problem and what is happening to me the last 7 months. I am really sorry If my English is bad but I will try to do my best in order to explain you. Before Christmas of 2013 (approximately 7 months ago), while I was trying to go to the 1st floor of my department at the University I slipped on the stairs (there was water on them) and I injured my leg. I heard a strange sound from inside the knee and I felt an acute pain. After that the knee was puffy so I went to see the GP. He was very polite and he said he could not do much for my situation and that it was necessary to see an expert doctor at the Freeman Hospital. After 2 months they sent me a letter to go to Freeman Hospital and see a doctor. (the knee was already in a very bad condition). A couple of days later they sent me another letter informing me that the appointment was cancelled and that the next appointment is after a couple of weeks (I do not remember the exact dates). Finally, I went there and I saw the doctor (I am not sure if it was the doctor himself or his assistant) and he sent me for an MRI. I had to wait 2 more months in order to do the MRI and then go back to the doctor in order to see the scan and examine my knee. In the meanwhile, between the scan and the next appointment, he sent me to a physiotherapist. (which was very-very helpful and diagnosed my problem immediately). 2 months after that I went to the doctor again. I think I saw his assistant which did not examine me at all and he just read the report of the MRI! (I could barely walk while my other knee started having some issues as well because I was putting all my weight on that in order to walk) He said to me to continue the physiotherapy and that if i have a problem ring doctor's secretary to book me an another appointment while he booked me an appointment in 3 (!) months time. I told him that I cannot walk and he sent me to another physiotherapist to examine me. That actually happened, and the 2nd physiotherapist told me the same as the 1st one (that the knee is not in a good condition and he cannot do anything about it. He pointed out that a doctor has to see me!!). That very helpful gentleman booked me an appointment with another doctor in 20-25 days time (thank you sir!). The problem is that at the moment, after all this waiting time, I feel my right knee absolutely crippled while the other one ( the left) is also in a bad condition. I do not know exactly what is going on with it but I am sure that I have heard strange sounds from it as well ( I have stumbled again 2-3 times and I have injured it.). For 6-7 months, I have been walking with one leg, so it was expected that to happen. 7 months ago, I was in a bad condition, but now I suffer. Even the knee brace does not help me at all. The physiotherapists were excellent but they could not do anything to help me. It is not rational to leave someone injured for so long time, his condition worsen everyday. Thank you

Mr Terzakis, Thank you for taking the time to post your review on NHS Choices. We are very disappointed to read that your care within the Musculoskeletal Services at the Freeman Hospital has not met your quite reasonable expectations and we are very sorry that you are still experiencing pain in your knee following your injury. In order that we can address your concerns and progress your treatment, we would appreciate it if you could contact Matron Saunders, Musculoskeletal Services on 0191 233 6161 and she will be happy to help resolve your concerns. Again may we apologise for the upset and distress this has caused you.
