"Patients Need Patience!"

About: Southmead Hospital

When the time came for my husband to be discharged from hospital, it took 7 hours for the Pharmacy to correctly complete the order for his discharge medication which was made by the wonderful staff of Gate 6B. We were fortunate that during this time he was able to stay in his room and rest. Nevertheless it is evident that the Pharmacy staff are severely stretched and we heard numerous complaints about the delays experienced by other patients too. During his stay, the nursing staff requested one particular medicine in the morning that he needed and at 7pm he and 6 other patients still hadn't received their medication. Perhaps management should consider providing more staff and resources to the Pharmacy so that beds can be freed up and more efficient use made of the hospital's resources.

Dear Anonymous Thank you for your comments relating the length of time your husband was kept waiting for his discharge medication to be provided. Clearly to have to wait 7 hours is not acceptable and we apologise that this happened. Once gain we are sorry that your husabdn waited so long for his medication, but we are pleased to know that he was able to stay in his room and rest whilst he waited. If you would like us to look at what specifically happened in your husband's case, please contact us at: Complaints@nbt.nhs.uk with his details and we will investigate this matter for you.
