"Excellent surgical and nursing care"

About: Royal United Hospital

I was recently admitted for an emergency operation and cannot speak highly enough of the impressive level of treatment and nursing care I received during my stay at the RUH. From the professional admission in the Surgical Assessment Unit, through to the excellent surgical team, the superb facilities and nurses in Intensive Care and the professional, supportive nursing team in Waterhouse Ward, my treatment throughout was exceptional and of the very highest quality. Having had three previous procedures in the RUH during the 1990s I was pleased to note a number of improvements this time; while the personal dedication of the surgeons, doctors and nurses has remained at a high standard, there has been a noticeable improvement in other levels of hospital care and particularly in the quality of hospital food; the healthy and edible selection was a distinct improvement and the catering manager should be congratulated on achieving so much with what must remain a very restricted budget. Other key improvements include single sex wards, increased levels of cleanliness throughout and faster bed turnaround for those at the next stage of their recovery to go on to nursing homes, thereby allowing acute new patients to get a bed and start their treatment quickly without having to wait days on a dreaded hospital trolley. The RUH is to be congratulated at all levels for such excellent patient care and for stretching the limited NHS budget to achieve such high standards. I cannot stress enough my gratitude to all concerned for such a professional, caring and effective level of treatment. Thank you.

We welcome your comments regarding your experience at the RUH, as it helps us to identify problems and improve the quality of our service and care. Thank you for your comments about SAU, Waterhouse, ITU wards and also for noticing the improvements since your experience whilst attending the RUH in the 1990’s. We will forward on your comments to the staff whom I'm sure will be very grateful for your kind words. We wish you a continued recovery from your operation.
