Like many people, over the years I have had various visits to hospital to sort out minor ailments. For the vast majority of these procedures I have been in private BUPA care, so, going into an NHS hospital was rather daunting. I was admitted to Ward 30; Barnsley Hospital Trust. Arrived 7.15am and fully expected to be left waiting. Not so. Booked in efficiently, sat for circa 10 minutes and was escorted into an awaiting bedded area. Within 10 minutes all the necessary checks and balances were put into place. Overall impression, very efficient Visited by the theatre staff, plus the consultant/doctor who would perform the procedure, all actions and procedures fully explained, gaining agreement from me, at each and every stage. Within circa 40 minutes I was on my way to theatre. How, thank goodness, the NHS has changed. Under very difficult circumstances the staff appeared to be calm and motivated, friendly and empathetic. First class process, first class procedures, first class aftercare. Brilliant.
