I was admitted to the A and E department 5.00pm on a Sunday afternoon. I cannot fault the paramedics who were caring, patient and kind. I had injured my knee and could not stand. I was seen quite promptly by a health care assistant who took my blood pressure. I waiting an hour for an x ray which was fine as I was offered pain relief. After the x ray I was told there was some concern over the x ray and a Doctor would need to look at it to decide what to do. The helathcare assistant came back and said I would need to see a bone specialist. A leg brace was fitted and I was left. No one came near me for some time. I was basically left and had to ask for a glass of water and to go to the toilet. I was in this department for 5 hours after which I was told I would be going home with the leg brace and a pair of crutches. At no point was I as the C. Q. C inspectors write about 'involved or participated' in my care. I was left in reception in a wheelchair and given an appointment for the fracture clinic with an apology saying that was the earliest appointment available which was 8 days away. No one asked me how I would cope at home or whether there was anyone who would be able to assist me. Not impressed at all.
