"A & E @ Solihull and Follow up @ Heartlands"

About: Heartlands Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics Solihull Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

Series of events led to me breaking my big toe a week ago. I went to Solihull A & E last Monday and although I waited 2 hours, this was acceptable and it was clear everyone was working their hardest. I had an X-ray very quickly following triage, and was very grateful for their efforts.

However my follow up appointment with the Fracture Clinic at Heartlands was a different story, a complete waste of time. My appointment was meant to be at 10: 55, and I was seen at midday. The Doctor did not examine my toe, and merely arranged a further xray in 4 weeks time.

In addition, in the waiting room was a man in a wheelchair, the Doctor who was due to see him called his name, and realising he needed to be wheeled in, looked around for a nurse or a porter. When nobody was available to undertake this task he returned to his room and waited for a nurse. It gave the impression that this was beneath him.
