(as a relative),

I am writing this short story as the daughter/carer of a 78 year old lady with a long history of diabetes and related problems.

For the past couple of years she has come under the care of the local community matron who prior to that had been involved in her diabetes care and so has quite an extensive knowledge of her medical history.

WIth her help and assistance in accessing other services ie social and medical care it allows my mum to stay in her own home, whereas, at this time last year, having spent an extended period in rehab and a nursing home, it was thought that she may not be able to live independantly again.

She looks on her as a friend and someone who she can talk to about any of her problems and finally would just like to stay that she has been 'on hand' on at least one occasion where she, with an assistant trainee matron who was with her, got my mum out of a very difficult, painful and embarassing situation.

This service is invaluable to me, as a carer and I am sure to many other patients and their relatives.

Your views of the Community Matron Service as a carer and relative are very important to us. It is particularly important to hear that you have found the service provided to your mum to have made a real difference to her independence. Thank you for taking the time to register your experiences.

Providing support to patients in the ways that you describe and acting as a key contact for relatives and carers is a crucial part of the Community Matron Service.

You have paid particular praise to your mum's Community Matron and it would be helpful if you could let me know her name so that your positive comments can be passed on to the person involved.

I will make sure that the comments you have made are passed on to the Community Matron Team and the managers involved in securing and developing the service in Central Lancashire.

Hi Julie
