What I liked

I came into A&E with severe stomach pains at 4am and was seen immediately. The nurses who dealt with me were very friendly and sympathetic and quickly ascertained what was wrong with me. i was put on a drip and given painkillers very quickly but i was told exactly what i was being given and why. After 3 hours or so i was feeling much better and was allowed to leave, but not before i was given a nice cup of sugary coffee to perk me up! Overall i simply could not fault the way i was cared for and i'm extremely grateful to the nurses for their friendliness and professionalism.

What could be improved

Nothing at all could have been done better.

Thank you for your very kind words about the care you received when you were at the QEII's A&E recently, which we will pass on to the team involved We're also glad to hear that you received such prompt care and that you made what seems like a swift recovery without the need to be admitted.

Your experience of the Trust's A&E service, while by no means universal, underlines just how much more quickly people get treated than was the case even than just a few short years ago. When you or a loved one are not feeling well and need help in an emergency, this now happens very speedily indeed.

While there is always more to be done, it is a sobering thought to consider the waiting time that used to exist in A&E departments just a decade ago, which sometimes stretched to longer than a whole day! Today the vast majority of people are seen, treated and admitted or discharged well within four hours.
