"After care"

About: Blackpool Victoria Hospital

After my opperstion i was taken to the day unit where i was given tamadol medication as well as morphine and paracetamol plus anti biotics and just come round from local anasthetic so was extremly tired but the nurse on the ward thought i was good enough to wake up discharge with co codimol and sent me on my way. I got outside everywhere was spinning i turned whiter than a ghost couldnt walk felt extremly sick with a high temp. The nurse hadnt checked how i was getting home if i was able to stand ok or even use the toilet ok. I was given far too much medication for them to just send me home 1 hr and half later. I felt i hadbeen pressured to leave they beeded the space but if i hadnt had my fiance by my side im sure i would not have been standing or talking now. Patient care on day unit is ok by some nurses but the odd one clearly hasnt had surgery so doesnt know how it feels very angry but very greatful to those that did make the effort.

Thank you for taking the time you share information about your care and treatment during recent visit to the Day Surgery unit here at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

I am sorry that you felt rushed out of the unit following your procedure. A discharge criteria document is used as a guide for discharge, as well as professional judgement and discussion with the patient as to assess their readiness for discharge. Please accept our apologies if this did not happen prior to your discharge.

I will be sharing your feedback with the team in the Day Surgery unit, so it can be brought to their attention and they act upon your vital feedback.

Regards,

Paul Jebb

Assistant Director of Nursing (Patient Experience)
