My GP recently referred me to the gynaecology department for some tests. Three days after seeing my GP I was telephoned with an appointment date and time - which was to be the day after the last Bank Holiday in May. I was told that a letter of confirmation would arrive in the post. It came the following day and included a very reassuring and informative patient information leaflet that told me all I needed to know about what would happen at the hospital, and the various options depending on what the tests showed, and the likely scenarios afterwards. The information made the wait of the next few days a lot more bearable. I was very scared on the morning of my appointment, but all the staff I met could not have been more kind and efficient. They spoke to me as if I was a friend and in the ultrasound department, where I went first, they really put me at my ease and were very gentle and explained everything at every stage. I went on to meet the consultant and his staff for further tests and examinations, and again the nurses could not have been more caring and reassuring. I received a letter within a week saying that all is well at this point and I will have a follow-up test in four months time. I feel I am in very safe hands and I am confident in not only the standard of care and services but also the kindness and compassion of staff.
