My 14 month old son managed to very badly damage his two front teeth and I took him to A and E where we were seen by a doctor within two hours and told to return to the hospital the next morning to see the paediatric dentist. We arrived at Jungle Ward just after 7.30 am and within an hour he was examined by a registrar from the Maxillofacial Dept who advised me that he should have his teeth removed. We were then told that he would be placed on the emergency surgery list for the whole hospital and that whilst this meant that we could not be guaranteed when he would be operated on, because he was so young he would be prioritised. He had surgery at 10.00am and we were discharged at 1.00pm. Throughout the whole process I was keep informed at all times as to what was happening and what i could next expect to happen and at no point was I left in the dark. All the staff, from the nurses and matron on the ward to the anaesthetist and the surgeon were friendly, approachable and filled me with a real sense of confidence. I was nervous because my son has never had a general anaesthetic before but the experience was as stress free as it could be because of how well we were taken care of. I am very very grateful to all those involved in my son's care.
"Very efficient and really well looked after"
