"Second class citizen"

About: NHS East Riding of Yorkshire CCG

(as a parent/guardian),

I took my son to a dentist, who works in a clinic where we live, and was told that we had to wait on a waiting list for my son (10 years old) who needs teeth extracting and teeth filling.

The dentist was very helpful, but told us we would have to travel to Leeds (we live in Hull) for my son to have fillings and a polish. We were also told that our son could have the teeth extracted in Hull, but would be on a waiting list.

Why is my son who suffers a lot in life with Autism forced to wait for dental treatment. I feel so angry as he is being treated as a second class citizen! This is unfair that a child with obvious special needs is left to suffer (his teeth must ache but he is unable to express this to anyone as he is mostly non verbal). It should be my sons right (and every other child\adult with special needs) to be seen by a dentist where he lives and not to have to wait for treatment.

If I needed to have teeth filled \extracted I would have the choice to be seen right away, where I live, why doesn't my son have this choice? By an appalled and very angry Mother.
