"Training for reception desk staff."

I attended Treliske Hospital A&E Department as a "self-referral" after being struck on the head by a fence-post driving-machine. I had a heavily blood-stained bandage around my head and dried blood over my face. Three staff were sat behind the reception desk. Although it must have been obvious to them that I had suffered what might have been a serous head injury, they all ignored me and carried on with their work. One got up, glanced at me and walked away. Another finished work on her keyboard and retrieved pages from a printing machine before acknowledging me. The length of time between being glanced at, ignored and then being spoken to was, I estimate, about four minutes - not long in elapsed time but nevertheless a clear signal that, in the A&E Department, computer print-outs take precedence over a blood-encrusted head. My subsequent treatment by a doctor and nurse was caring and first-rate - but more training may be needed for reception desk staff.
