I've been on wd 11 twice already this year and cannot fault the staff. They are friendly and treat you with care and respect from the time you arrive to when you leave. The wd itself is a day ward and is extremely comfortable with a day room that can be used if you are waiting a long time to go to theatre. The wd is kept clean and the staff ensure the cleanliness is maintained by cleaning the bays as soon as patients have left the wd if they are not returning following their surgery. The only downside to the wd for me is not being able to have my husband with me. I shall be returning to wd 11 for major surgery due to cancer in 6 weeks or so and knowing my husband can't be there to support me whilst I wait to go to theatre, at what will be an extremely difficult time for us both is worrying me. I know I'm going to be upset that day and will need my husband to elate my fears and he won't be there. Perhaps a waiting area on the wd somewhere for family to support their loved ones, could be looked into particularly when cancer patients are admitted for surgery.
