"I was an outpatient, and everyone ..."

About: Southport & Formby District General Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I was an outpatient, and everyone I came in contact with were very professional and friendly.

What could be improved

The car park signage. I drove round to car park 'A' and drove past to a dead end, as did three cars that were with me. I followed car one and there was one behind me. We all had to turn round. The first car went on past the car park entrance, but i stopped and reread the sign. I initially had thought it was a staff car park because it read Staff and Visitors, ( I think). I think this could be better written. ie Car Park A. It can be confusing by putting the word 'staff' first. When in a hurry and perhaps a bit late for appointments and other cars behind you, you don't always stop and read a complete sign when the first word to be seen is 'Staff'. Also, when I got out of the car, there was nothing to tell me which wat to go to the entrance of the hospital. I headed for the main building which went through an area that didn't look very patient or visitor friendly. The only signs, and they are numerous, were the 'exit' signs.

I consider myself as an intelligent person, and am a retired RGN, but i found the car park facility frustrating. I also had difficulty in finding my car again!!!! I had 5 minutes to go before my appointment when I parked and had to hurry. If there had been some sort of 'landmark' to see and remember, it would have been very helpful.

Anything else?

My neighbour's husband was an inpatient for 4 weeks recently and sadly died. He was on 3 separate wards during his stay, and my neighbor praised highly the staff and cleanliness, and not least the care her husband received on all of the wards, but she also found the big car park confusing.
