"Generally nice people, just seemed ..."

About: Southampton General Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

Generally nice people, just seemed they were in too much of a rush to take my case seriously.

What could be improved

I went to A&E after a serious head on collision in a rugby game too get checked out. I was in serious pain, my back kept locking up and struggled walking. The Dr gave me a prod and a poke and just said the compression of the spine caused my muscles in my back to spasm. I was in and out within 3 minutes, he never gave me time of day. He told me to rest and ice it, which i did. 6 months later i was still having problems with my back so went privately, went through neccessary scans and found out i had a fracture on my spine. Sheer negligence on behalf of the the guy who saw me. You would have thought they would have just given me a scan.

Anything else?

Yes my back has finally got better 16months later.

Never going there again.

GHN: Please get in touch with us directly via our Patient Advice and Liaison service on pals@suht.swest.nhs.uk or by calling 023 8079 8498 so that we can look into the care you received in more detail.

It is worth noting that A&E is not always the appropriate way to access health services - for example, for ongoing pain, your GP might be a good source of advice as well as facilitating referrals for hospital care. Please read our information about the Emergency Department for more information: http://www.suht.nhs.uk/emergency
