"Tonsillectomy for my son"

About: The Royal London Hospital

My son had a tonsillectomy in 2013. I have been meaning to write this review for sometime as it is positive and I think most people only write reviews that are negative. He was 16 then, had multiple episodes of tonsillitis but also had a very enlarged tonsil on one side. Good referral from GP ,was seen within a few weeks in hospital as it was not an emergency and my son was examined by the consultant. Surgery was booked within three weeks. We had to cancel the first one as it came right in his exams (we had told them at the time what dates he could not do, but this seemed to get lost in translation), a new date booked. Surgery went well, he was discharged quickly and we had good information for post op times. The outpatient review was good, and his biopsy results were available. I could not really find anything wrong with this experience - it solved the problem. The new london hospital is clean and clinical and much better than the rambling old victorian building it replaces. I think you should put ENT on the list of options for departments as it is missing and I had to put general surgery in there.

Thank you for sharing your experience of having ENT surgery at The Royal London Hospital. We are so pleased that the experience met yours and your son's expectations. We have fed back your message to the staff involved in delivering patient care, and they are delighted to hear that everything went well. Thank you for identifying that you had to re-schedule the first date we gave your son - we will endeavour to use this as learning to understand better our patient's school commitments before offering dates for surgery in future. Many thanks, Barts Health NHS Trust
