"Reception terrible but A&E cilnical staff amazing"

About: Southampton General Hospital

I arrived on a quiet Thursday afternoon with a suspected blood clot in my lung and while my mother held me up in front of the reception desk, the receptionist spent a good 5-10 minutes explaining to another member of staff where she wanted some boxes moved. My mother called out to her that I needed to be admitted but we were told to wait. When she finally got around to seeing us and we were able to get on to the ward the staff were incredible and very helpful. They couldn't have been more friendly or attentive. However, I felt that I should have taken priority over a box of files... it was fairly distressing. I was very close to the hospital at the time so it was quicker to be driven than call for an ambulance. I felt like because I hadn't come in through the ambulance bay I wasn't taken seriously by reception.

Thank you for taking time to post your feedback, though was sorry to read that your experience of the reception staff was poor. This will be fed back to the reception team for them to reflect upon. We are pleased to note that the rest of your experience was more positive and we hope you are making a good recovery.
