"My mother was admitted to the ..."

About: Princess Alexandra Hospital (Harlow)

(as a relative),

What I liked

My mother was admitted to the High Dependency Unit at the Princess Alexandra Hospital due to complications arising from Serosis of the liver. Myself and and a few members of my family were greeted by a consultant and a doctor to discuss the complications and treatment. Whilst the consultant was explaining things to the family the other doctor proceeded to smirk, laugh at nothing funny, it seems like he thought everything was a big joke. Sadly 2 days later the family were called to the hospital as my mum’s condition deteriorated rapidly. We were told that she was dying and to say our goodbyes. The staff on hand was amazing and very very helpful and compassionate but my mum was kept in the communal ward whilst the family said their goodbyes. We felt that this was not right, there were other families and patients there who were distressed by our distress and they had to endure our pain, no doubt worrying that it will be their loved ones will be next.

What could be improved

One of the beds she was put in had what appeared to be blood of the sheets when she was admitted to A&E

Anything else?

Nursing staff were amazing
