"Lack of care in A&E"

About: Pilgrim Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a service user),

Admitted at 3am on a January morning. Checked in and left alone in cubicle until 10am. No checks, information, help with any refreshments.

Taken to observation ward and left alone on damaged ECG machine until 1pm.

Food given after my request and nice hot meal sought for me. 18 hours without any food or drink not good for a Diabetic.

Sent home with indigestion remedy advised to get from my chemist by a duty Doctor who they said "I was lucky as he was passing through".

Home 3pm.

Dear Durham Girl

I am so sorry that you were left alone without to anything to eat and drink for that considerable period of time and that you weren’t offered a clear explanation of your investigations or treatment plan. I am happy to discuss your concerns and experience and apologise personally, if you would like to contact me via our PALS team on 01205 464861.

Sincerely

Lynda Stockwell

Head of Nursing.
