"Concern over depletion of services, staffing and quality of staff at Trafford General"

About: Trafford General Hospital

(as a volunteer/advocate),

I'm concerned about the depletion of services for Trafford residents occurring from the purchase of Trafford General by Central Manchester Hospital. My neighbour is in her 60s and lives alone. Her family are travelling miles across the region to visit her in hospital. We used to have services on our doorstep.

I'm also concerned because all the experienced staff at Trafford General seem to have left, leaving inexperienced, junior staff with English as a second language.

I understand that, after August this year, there will only be one junior Doctor on duty at night.

We are very sorry to receive your comments and concerns via the NHS Choices and Patient Opinion websites and hope to reassure you that the quality of staff employed to work at Trafford Hospital has not been affected by the acquisition of the hospital by Central Manchester Foundation Trust in April 2012.

Trafford Hospital continues to develop it services and offer excellent clinical care to the people of Trafford and surrounding areas. We wish to reassure you that at night the wards are covered by a Medical Registrar (a senior doctor) and a Foundation Year 1 Doctor (junior doctor), with support offered by an on call Consultant. Support is also available from an experienced out of hours senior nursing team, which was introduced in November 2013. In addition, from August 2015 an additional junior Doctor has been included in the on call team during the day to provide support.

It is very difficult to respond to the specific concerns you have raised without being able to investigate these in detail. We take all issues surrounding patient care very seriously and would very much like to hear from you directly about this. If you contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 0161 276 8686 or by e-mailing pals@cmft.nhs.uk they will be able to discuss this with you.
