"communication between managers"

About: Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust / Adult mental health

(as the patient),

A friend of mind met with the general manager of LPFT and was told that the Day ward would not close. Surprise surprise a different manager has informed staff that is closing within the month. This has been happening over the last few months. How can we trust anything that is being said by managers? This is having a real adverse effect on my recovery as I do not feel safe working with the services for fear that they will be removed..

Throughout the development of the Trusts Recovery College it has always been made clear to everyone by all of the managers in the service that the Day Ward would not close until the Recovery College was up and running, but once this happened the Day Ward would close. The original decision to close the Day Ward was made last year due to the much reduced number of referrals that it had been receiving for a long period of time. This had shown us that that it was not generally meeting the requirements of people needing mental health services support, paticularly as the Managed Care Network has developed more opportunities for people countywide. It was therefore decided to develop a new service that had recently been found to be extremely effective across the country as a whole, a Recovery College.

The Recovery College intends to meet the recognised aim of supporting service users in developing skills and personal resilience to help with long term recovery and overall wellbeing and will be easily accessible for many service users, initially based in Lincoln but hopefully countywide over time. We have many people interested in attending the College and fully intend it to become bigger and more wide ranging with the hope that there will be something for everyone within its timetable.
