"Anal fissure"

About: Salisbury District Hospital

Although my consultant was a very pleasant man and understanding I feel that the workload he was placed under had a negative effect on my own medical condition. I was seen with a suspected anal fissure which was confirmed - scheduled botox took place but was unsuccessful in alleviating the extreme pain I was in. A 2nd round of botox and skin tag removal was even more unsuccessful - I was admitted to A&E a week later in horrific pain that even morphine did not dampen - only after direct injections (under anaesthetic) to deaden the nerves was I out of pain. All this could be my bad luck and no one patient is the same - however, the complete lack of follow through in terms of explaining and taking time, what kind of pain to realistically expect to be in after discharge and the duration of time it may take to heal - I am into year 3 and still my fissure has not healed completely. In short, I don't blame anyone for the anal fissure's lack of healing but I do think that there is a serious and urgent need for senior management to sit with several patients and let them tell them what they feel is going wrong - I felt like something of a conveyor belt and I was a burden rather than time spent trying to make me understanding and ask questions - too rushed. Also, the drop down box below this form does not list Colorectal as an option?!

Thank you very much for telling us about your experience at Salisbury Hospital. We are sorry to hear we didn’t meet your expectations. We are disappointed that you felt you did not have enough time to ask questions and understand what to expect. We have shared your comments with the teams who cared for you and with our Executive Directors. I’ll pass on your comment about the drop down boxes to the NHS Choices team. Listening to our patients helps us improve what we do, so thank you once again for getting in touch.
