That was the impatient comment made by a Consultant when I'd only been pushing for 1 hour : tut, huff "hasn't she delivered yet"? For my first baby. I had a locum midwife who couldn't have cared less about my delivery and didn't try to help me change position to get my baby out. I was made to feel like an inconvenience rather than a patient. After my baby was born I spent 1 night there and couldn't get out fast enough. There was a girl who was testing my baby's sucking reflex, her hands stank of smoke, clearly just back from a cigarette break, no gloves and she stuck her finger into my not even 1 day old baby's pure little mouth. Disgusting. When I was in so much pain post delivery and was looking for water to change my baby's nappy, the midwife waggles her finger at the sink for me to hobble across the ward myself. Considering Queen Charlotte's is supposed to be one of the best, I shudder to think what other maternity hospitals are like.
