About: Wansbeck Hospital

This review may be a little premature as my husband is still being cared for at the hospital. To date is care has been excellent, in Ward 7, CCU and cardiac care. The staff have all been supportive and all first class in their roles. One little comment. Staff should really leave the ward at night for their break and a chat - sleep is difficult enough in a busy ward! My main complaint/concern is about entering the hospital via the main entrance. It is often like a battle scene. Patients wearing gowns and hooked up to various equipment sit or stand a few feet away from the doors having a cigarette break. The fug of smoke is horrible and the ground is littered with cigarette ends. Why is this allowed? Are these people suppose to be ill? If there has to be a smokers area surely it can be moved from the main entrance. It gives a very poor impression of the hospital and I think it is disgraceful.

Dear Madam   Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. We welcome all feedback from our patients, both positive and negative - each has a part to play in helping us improve.   I am pleased that your husband has received excellent levels of service from all the staff who have been involved in his care at Wansbeck Hospital.  I absolutely appreciate your comments on the noise levels during the night and can understand how important a restful nights sleep is when recovering in hospital. I am so sorry that your husband's sleep has, however unintentionally, been disturbed by noise from staff, . I will ensure that I share your comments with each of the ward managers.   I share your concerns of patients and visitors smoking at the main entrance. It is an on-going challenge to prevent this from happening despite clear signs that the hospital is a non smoking area. We also have to do all we can to keep all patients safe whilst they are in our care. I realise that we still have some way to improve this situation.   Best Wishes and many thanks for bringing this to my attention.   Annie
