"Stillbirth at the PRU Christmas Eve 2014-..."

Our daughter tragically died before she was born at 41+4 weeks, and we only found out when we got to the PRU during labour. It was the worst moment of my life, but the care that we received was excellent during our 4 days there. If there's anything I would criticize, it's the antenatal care that we received before- for low risk pregnancies you only receive two scans (13 and 20 weeks). It is evident from the postmortem that our stillbirth was avoidable and I am now working with SANDS (Stillbirth and neonatal death charity) on awareness and a national trial to reduce the numbers- in the UK 1 in 200 pregnancies end in stillbirth, which is approximately 17 a day, and 4000 a year and we have one of the worst rates in the developed world. I would not wish this fate on my worst enemy. I sent a personal thank you to the four midwives that looked after us attentively, and the bereavement room (The Robinson Suite) was a much needed sense of normality, and allowed my husband and I to cuddle on a double bed in a beautiful room after 4 days of being on separate beds. Reduced movements during labour is not normal so please do not hesitate to ring your midwife. I have requested the midwife that delivered us to be there for the birth of our second child as I completely trust her and now have a very strong bond- and we will work to make this happen as I'll be induced early to avoid tragedy again.
