"Gastroenterology"

About: St James's University Hospital

I have had a succession of referrals to hospital since last October. I have lost weight since then (about 18kg) and have reduced appetite, nausea and continued abdominal discomfort. My blood pressure has fallen from high to low, alongside all this. My first appointment with a senior doctor, after a gastroscopy in November 2013 was a humiliating experience where they refused to engage in any dialogue and did not examine me but simply said I had nothing much wrong. I was told not to trouble doctors so much.My GP arranged another gastroscopy recently and again this doctor got involved (against my express wish) and decreed I still have nothing much wrong (gastroscopy report indicated erosive gastritis) and they did not propose to do a follow up appointment. I only discovered this by calling the hospital - neither I nor my GP had been told this. My only recourse seems to involve legal action and / or seeking private medical care. This is shameful and shabby and - however clever the consultant in question - he fails the key test of care by being remote, dismissive and uncommunicative. Maybe he treats his private patients better at the Nuffield? Disgraceful service. Question 4 is not easy to complete as I have been passed around a number of departments since October 2013 and I also have routine consultations for PYH resistance and Barretts Oesophagus.
