"Tooth Extraction"

About: Northampton General Hospital (Acute)

I was admitted to the Day Surgery Unit for teeth to be extracted under general Anaestetic, after a short wait i was taken through and my details were taken by two exceptionally kind nurses, who was a student nurse. They were both fantastic as i was very nervous and anxious about the proceedure. I was given time to change and then one of the nurses sat and talked to me to keep me calm before the operation. I met the surgeon and also the anaesthetist who both explained what they would do and this made me feel calmer. I walked through to just outside the theatre and got on the bed and after a canula was put into the back of my hand (I didn't feel this at all), I was off to sleep. The whole proceedure must have taken about 45mins and then i woke to two very cheery and friendly nurses, who sat me up, wiped my face and chatted to me for a while until i was taken through to the ward. I felt no pain or had any bleeding. I was offered something to drink and a lovely cool yogurt and the after about half an hour I was allowed to get up and get dressed. My blood pressure and oxygen sats were taken at intervals and both nurses looked after me exceptionally well, nothing was too much trouble for them. I sat in the comfy chairs for another 20 mins while one of the nurses got together my paperwork, checked my obs again and even wrote on my discharge notes when i could take more paimkillers. 24 hours later i have some swelling and a black eye, im eating soft foods and the discomfort is not too bad and im taking Ibuprofen for it. I cannot fault this fantastic team of people, I was a very nervous, anxious patient and the trouble taken by these people to put me at ease was amazing. If this nurse is the standard of dedicated student nurses that NGH takes on then patients are very lucky. Thanks again to the whole team.
