"A & E Saturday 10th May"

About: Basildon University Hospital

My 91 year old aunt was sent to Thurrock Community from her residential home with acute cellulitis and a chest infection and she was in agony at 15.00, at 19.00 hours she was sent to Basildon A&E. She was howling in pain and when I asked if she could have some pain relief, I was told there were only two nurses working so she would have to wait. A nurse finally attended her at 21.00 and morphine was given. A doctor did see her and at 1.00 am she was sent to xray. She has Pneumonia and was very unwell. She is now on Kingswood ward where the staff are fantastic. I just wish A&E could be a little swifter with their treatment it is too long to wait, I understand this is a very busy department but get more staff. A staff member who stands and the computer could show a little more patient friendliness - no beside manner at all !!

We are sorry to hear that your Aunts experience of care within the emergency department at Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals was not a good one. We will feed these comments back to the departmental management. W are pleased to hear that she is having a better experience of care on Kingswood ward, and will be sure to let the staff on the ward know this. Thank you for tasking the time to tell us your views.
