"Upon visiting a close family friend ..."

About: Pilgrim Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

Upon visiting a close family friend in hospital I was discusted in what I found.

This particular patient was admited due to having enhanced cancer and a possible water infection.

Upon visiting in pilgrim hospital I was discusted in the treatment and basic infection controll. For staters he was placed in a ward known to have d&v outbreak, very nice. Upon admission no basic nursing intervention were given ie taking a water sample to determine the infection to therefor treat it. which after all was the main reason for his admission.

The ward itself was revolting, moving this patients dressing gown from the chair to find a dirty incontinance pad. Bed pans pilled up in chair's along the back wall. Bed sheets dumped in chairs. Staff making beds using sheets from the floor. General sanitation for a ward with an infectious illness was nil. Staff not even trying to contain or controll any infection.

Something has to be done. Going into hospital is ment to make you better, to treat the illness you were admitted for. Instead you go home with more infections and twice as ill as you were admitted.

What could be improved

EVERYTHING!

Bit of soap and water would be nice. The whole place needs a very deep clean and decontamination.

Staff need educating in basic infection controll and manners.

The chief execs need to go back down to basics and see the real problem their hospital is in.
