"Excellent Team - Manfield Theatre and Althorp Ward"

About: Northampton General Hospital (Acute)

I went in to the NHS on 12th May 2014 for an arthroscopy and was apprehensive as my previous appointment in April had been cancelled. Got to the day surgery unit Manfield ward but transferred to Althorp, no reason given. Staff here were fabulous and made you feel at ease - was relieved to hear I was first on list , which meant Nil by mouth from previous night wouldn't be too onerous ... Didn't realise until later one of the patients who was admitted same time as me was still wanting at 4pm to go in for her op! Not an enviable position! The anaesthetists visited me and listened to my concerns whilst providing me with reassurances then it wasn't long before the bubbly nurse came to wheel me to the other side of the hospital to the Manfield Theatre! Hats off to her - she was so friendly and introduced me to the team in the theatre - one big happy family! Any nerves were completely removed because of their wonderful attitude! And then post op wheeled back to Althorp Ward by two fine men! Once back on the ward I was made to feel very comfortable and welcomed back with a glass of water! Divine followed by a cuppa and sandwich! Once I was alert the physio team came to help showing me exercised to aid my recovery then assisted in helping me up and down the stairs with the aid of a crutch which I was allowed to take with me! Once I was able to be signed out and received my doctors certificate from the staff on the second shift I got to meet the delightful and very efficient team but the nurse is worth a huge mention as her dedication shone through and obviously loves it .. That is very clearly evident and shows in the care and attention throughout the ward! Even the cleanliness of the place is worth a shout .. This lady was up and down all day enduring with her dedication to making everything germ free! All in all a wonderful experience and my faith in the NHS restored! I hope the thanks is passed onto both departments please as you have a very grateful patient! Fiona Lloyd

That's brilliant Fiona. Thank you so much for your words of praise - we'll certainly pass them on to our staff. Best wishes from all at NGH for a continued recovery, and we hope you are soon fully fit.
