"My CMHT Experience"

About: Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust / Adult mental health

(as the patient),

I was diagnosed with BPD in June 2013. And was being seen by the CMHT, at first it seemed to be beneficial for me, but after 3 months my social worker stopped calling me and stopped replying to my calls.

I got worse and was admitted to hospital in September. I saw my GP and explained everything, she called my social worker and had a go at her, when I say my social worker the next day, she had a go at me, and told me she hasn't got time to go round in circles with me and walked out. I was so distraught, I took an overdose.

When I recovered I made an official complaint, and got a new social worker. In our first meeting the new social worker told me basically had to start all over again. January 2014, it was sort of the same thing, no call backs, talking about the same thing, the same question over and over, " what do you want us to do" I got progressively frustrated and angry.

I exploded one day and threatened someone with a knife, the police came to my house and advised me to see someone straight away. So I rushed to my CMHT, who then told me to see the same social worker I made a complaint about. After 5 mins she told me she had a meeting to go to and I need to leave, when I told her that I wanted a letter stating exactly what happened, and I was not going to leave without it, she called a male colleague and threatened to call the police if I did not leave. She then moved me from the room and into the reception area, and within seconds there was 5 people surrounding me. I felt set up.

They know my condition and I knew I was gonna punch someone because I felt backed into a corner so I left. The next month they discharged me, stating that I refused all the services offered.
