"Lavender gyne ward"

About: Worcestershire Royal Hospital

Was admitted on the 7 May for a hysterectomy. They did not have a bed for me but managed to find one just before I went for surgery. The care I received was adequate at best. The ward was under staffed and the communication was poor. I was looked after by an agency nurse who quite frankly did not cope with the pressure of the staffing levels. I had to ask several times for even the most basic thing, like being passed a pair of pants from my bag. I was wheeled across a busy ward in just my nightie with no dressing gown or underwear whilst other people had visitors and the whole thing was degrading. The food was disgusting. The one thing they did well was discharge me 48 hours after major surgery. At least at home I am well looked after. The scrub nurse who booked me in was very good, as was the medical and pharmaceutical team. I am sure that under the right circumstances the nursing staff would have been very good but they were just too short staffed and there were two ladies on my ward who were not even gyne patients. Only good side, only have one womb so will never have to go through this again. I was on beech head and neck a couple of years ago and the difference between the wards was startling. I have nothing but praise for the care and attention given there to all patients and I suppose was under the illusion that the care would be of the same quality, it was not
