Really concerned about the level of decision making and the lack of review with regards to my Mum's ongoing care at New Cross My concern:- We are seriously concerned about the lack of food offered and intake.. As my Mum has been seriously poorly she hasn't been eating very well and is severely malnourished. Either due to miscommunication and misunderstanding she has been put on a soft food/dysphagic diet, which there is a limited choice. She is feeling well enough to eat solid food again......but she can't have solid food because someone has made the decision not to feed her solid food. The questions that I would like answering:- I want to know who made the decision, why the decision was made and why my Mum's being refused solid food, particularly as she is feeling much better. Why staff feel that my Mum can survive on a jelly a day, despite being severely malnourished Why it took a week for her to receive the anxiety tablets.....despite us asking numerous times. Why a neurologist hasn't visited her whilst being there to advise others on her complex needs The problem is this situation cannot be reviewed until Monday, this certainly is unacceptable, her need for food is critical now. she is a very intelligent lady, who can still communicate and think for herself, although staff still think it is necessary to talk in a raised voice as if she is stupid, not the nursing staff, they do their best. It is distressing enough that my Mum has a terminal illness and life has dealt her a cruel blow, what isn't acceptable is that the basic needs are not being provided for.
