"The service I received was outstanding ..."

About: Manchester Royal Eye Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

The service I received was outstanding and undoubtedly first class, from everyone the doctors, nurses and all the ward staff on Nightingale Ward. I'm blind in my left eye and my vision in my right was deteriorating rapidly. Their was a very high risk I could have lost the vision in my right eye. I was in for ten days and underwent two major eye operations, three laser treatments and numerous minor daily treatments. The doctors worked so hard, as well as their early morning and late afternoon rounds the consultants came in to see me in the evenings and at weekends. When they couldn't come in in the evenings the duty doctors would phone them up and tell them what was happening with my eyes. They worked relentlessly to ensure I still have vision in my right eye, they really don't get the credit they deserve. The Glaucoma Team at Manchester Royal Hospital have given me back my vision, I can now walk about on my own, play with my children, read, ride my bike and most importantly just get on with my life without having to be dependent on others. Need I say any more.

What could be improved

The patients attitude and cleanliness. I was appalled at the attitude and hygiene habits of some patients. People don't appreciate the services we receive from the NHS, they just believe they have a right to it and because of this attitude they can be rude to whoever they like. Also the hygiene or should I say lack of it is a major concern to me. I saw the doctors and nurses constantly washing their hands, but many patients didn't appear to be very hygienic. The media are going on about how dirty hospitals are, I think they should be focusing on how dirty people are. If people are not clean how can the staff keep the hospital clean.

Anything else?

Absolutely fantastic first class service from start to finish. Thank you.
