"Maternity unit"

About: Russells Hall Hospital

I gave birth to my baby in the low risk maternity area. I cannot fault the care I, my baby and my husband was given by the midwives. I was admitted in the night and was put in the multi track room, it is a massive room with various beds, cushions, and the multi track equipment. It even had calming lights in the ceiling. I really didn't want to be stuck on a bed so this room was ideal for me as I could try different positions to see what was working best. The midwifes kept me calm, and always kept my husband involved. They also spent time after the birth helping me and my baby bond and feed. They made sure me and my husband had something to eat and drink after I had given birth, then made sure I was showered and comfortable and left me to rest. My husband had the option to stop with us overnight. In the morning I was seen by a midwife, my baby was checked, and I had a visit from a breast feeding support worker, my medication was dispensed and we were ready to go home by midday, but at no point was I rushed out the door. It is my first baby and thanks to the lovely midwives it was a really positive experience.

Thank you for posting your feedback about our Maternity Services. First of all congratulations on the birth of your first baby! We are pleased that your first experience of childbirth was such a positive one and that you felt at ease and not rushed. Our Midwifery-led Unit has been refurbished recently, with the help of a government grant, to make it a more homely experience for women giving birth, and so it is pleasing to receive such positive feedback about the unit and our team of midwives who work there. Thank you so much for your kind comments at this busy time for you and your husband. We will be sure to pass them on to the maternity unit staff. We are now taking nominations for our annual Committed to Excellence awards, staff awards that that recognise individuals and teams who have made an outstanding contribution to improving patient care and patient experience. The awards are now open for entries so if you feel you would like to submit a nomination please visit our website www.dgh.nhs.uk.
