"Leverhulme Day Ward Urology"

About: Clatterbridge Hospital

My mother spent a day in the Leverhulme day ward very recently. Her referral to the ward was fast-tracked because of her symptoms. When we got there we explained that although she has some conversational English, her understanding of medical terminology etc is very poor and so we asked if I could stay with her to translate. This posed no problem and I was able to stay with her throughout the day to interpret. Staff treated my mum with a high degree of dignity and respect throughout the day. Everything was explained to her, she got her test results on the same day and a treatment plan was established before she left the hospital. We arrived at Clatterbridge at 9am and my mother had had nothing to eat for breakfast. I asked a nurse if I could run to the cafeteria to bring her a sandwich and was told to wait a few minutes before doing anything. Well, in 10 minutes a tray with toast, butter, jam and tea had been brought to her bed. I know that's not a medical intervention per se, but it highlights how staff treat patients with compassion and respect at all times.

Thank you very much for your kind comments. We are extremely grateful that you have taken the time to provide this feedback. Our staff work hard to try to ensure that a patient’s experience whilst at the hospital is as pleasant and comfortable as possible, and they are always considerably heartened and motivated on learning how much their efforts have been appreciated. We have passed your kind sentiments to staff in our Urology Department. If we can be of further assistance in any way, please do not hesitate to contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on freephone 0800 432 0251, email wih-tr.pals@nhs.net or in writing to PALS, Arrowe Park Hospital, Arrowe Park Road, Upton, Wirral, CH49 5PE.
