On Friday 2nd May 2014 I was admitted to Torbay Hospital for shoulder surgery. The care I received was outstanding from beginning to end. Both the orthopaedic consultant and the consultant anaesthetist went to great lengths to explain to me exactly what they were doing and why at all stages during the process, which was immensely reassuring. They were scrupulously considerate, thorough, careful and obviously highly skilled, not just in the technical aspects of their profession but in putting patients at their ease. At no point did I experience any pain. The nursing staff on the Ella Rowcroft Ward were great: kind, immediately attentive, caring and skilled. At all times I was treated with respect, dignity and concern for my wishes; and like an intelligent individual who had a valid voice in the process. This has not been my experience at other hospitals and was a profound relief. I cannot praise the Orthopaedic Department highly enough: this was superb care.
"Outstanding care"
